This city was founded in the 3rd century by the order of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. For a long time this place remained a sovereign area, then Split was considered a part of Austria, and only after this it was annexed to Croatia. Modern Split is a major historical and cultural center, which attracts thousands of visitors each year and is ready to show its sights 12 months a year.

Diocletian's Palace remains the main symbol of the city. You will find many historical buildings on the territory of the palace. This is a large-scale structure, which length and width estimate 215 and 180 meters respectively. Once the palace has been surrounded by a high stone wall; nowadays only some stone fragments remind of it. The architectural complex was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is the main attraction of the country. Museum of Split is opened in the palace. A large collection of books that tell about the history of the city is the most valuable item in the museum’s collection. Besides this the museum exhibits a collection of antique arms and armor. One of the most important religious sites - the Baptistery of St. John – is located nearby. Travelers may find a particular interest in looking at the font, the panel of which is decorated with paintings depicting king Zvonimir. There is also a place for walking here - Brace Radic Square, where you can see the ruins of an ancient tower, several statues and the building of Venetian Castle.
