Croatia is full of popular tourist places, but one of the leaders is surely Split, situated to the south of the country. This city is quite big, to be exact, only Pula outnumbers it. The city is not only very marvelous and full of historical monuments, it's also ready to offer you all the necessary facilities for having a holiday of a lifetime. In summer this place simply turns into a paradise for those, who are found of surfing, sailing and just swimming.
Diocletian's palace is a fabulous building that is worth visiting. You can hire a guide or learn everything about it from specialized brochures. Pay your attention to the Peristyle, the large open-aired place with 6 columns around it. In the middle you'll see the beautiful arch that makes the view even more pleasant.
To the east from this place you'll find the cathedral that has become the symbol of Split. On the opposite side takes place the 'People Square'. There you can also have a look at the City Hall of the 15th century, the city museum and the Ethnographic Museum. The statue of Gregory of Nin also shouldn't be left unnoticed. In the 10th century this man was the church leader and Ivan Mestrovic, the famous sculptor, devoted that statue to him.
