The style, developed by Trezzini was exemplified by such construction as Peter and Paul Cathedral, which stands in splendor among all magnificent palaces. The bright colors of St Isaac's Cathedral and of the Church on Spilled Blood decorate the city on Neva.
Located on the left bank of the Neva, Nevsky Prospekt is the main avenue in the city. The combination of three outstanding architecture styles (classical, Baroque and Style Modern) has formed the most beautiful street in the world. The Neva River decorates St. Petersburg with its waterways which create the illusion of Italian Venice.
St. Petersburg is Russia's second largest city but if to talk about the beauty – it certainly deserves the first place. The classical culture is concentrated in the former capital. There are more than fifty theaters in the city among them is the world-famous Mariinsky Theater.
The Bronze Horseman is a famous statue of Peter the Great. It is situated in the Decembrists Square. This is also the name of a poem written by Aleksandr Pushkin about the statue.
The place that Peter chose for his city was a swamp all over there. The tsar just ordered to get there thousands of peasants to cover the swamp with ground. Thousands of people passed away because of the hard work. Nowadays St. Petersburg is sometimes called the city on bones.
