Masai

From the series “Wildest Tribes Avoiding Civilization”
The Maasai people of East Africa live in the savanna between southern Kenia and nothern Tanzania. The tribe has some 900 000. They differ by a special way of life, which has absolutely not changed over the past century. A tribal structure is based on the so-called age-groups. The responsibilities of tribe members depend on the age of the group they belong to.
From boyhood to adulthood, young Maasai boys begin to learn the responsibilities of being a man or helder and a warrior. The role of a warrior is to protect their animals from human and animal predators, to provide security to their families. So they herd cattle, later, through rituals and ceremonies Maasai boys are guided on how to become a warrior. Women are responsible for making the houses as well as supplying water, collecting firewood, milking cattle and cooking for the family. The Maasai is one of the few tribes in which polygamy is supported.
Though they traditionally dressed in animal skins, today, typical Maasai dress consists of red clothes. Women wear silver jewelry. The savannas, where the Maasai people live, are very extensive and some tribal groups live close to cities. Thus, they have a close contact with the "white people". They often make colourful dance performances in hotels. Some tourists prefer to make personal visits to the villages of the nomadic tribe. Those representatives of the tribe who live in complete isolation in remote areas of the savanna have never seen people of a different skin colour. ... Complete sights collection

Nabiyotum

From the series “Majestic and Spectacular Craters and Crater Lakes”
Nabiyotum is the most famous and beautiful crater in Kenya. It is located next to another prominent landmark, the largest alkaline lake in the world of Turkana. One of the main characteristics of the crater is the incomparable view. It looks like a huge funnel with very steep and high slopes. The crater is almost surrounded on all sides by the strange alkaline lake. This landscape is simply peculiar.
The travelers, who want to see these natural wonders with their own eyes, are to prepare themselves for the long and dangerous adventure. The lake and crater are located almost 70 kilometers from the nearest town, Lodvar. Such a distance may seem slight to experienced tourists. The road, however, extends through very complicated and dangerous places. The wild animals are the main danger to the tourists, so it is recommended to go to the crater only accompanied by the ranger.
The crater was relatively recently discovered, in 1888. The scientists have determined that the crater is of volcanic origin. The curiously regular geological form is one of the main features of the crater. The tourists, who are not afraid of the long journey through Kenyan desert, can see two distinctive natural sights of the world meaning. ... Complete sights collection

Lake Turkana

From the series “The Unesco World Heritage Sites in Africa”
In Kenya, is one of the world’s most important natural attractions - Lake Turkana, also known under another name – Lake Rudolph. This lake lies on the territory of the Great Reef valley. Its depth is relatively small and is on average of about 30 meters. At the same time the size of the lake is quite impressive; Its length is about 290 km, and the latitude is about 32 km. The general surface of the water basin is 6405 sqm.
The discoverers of the lake are the Austrian explorer Ludwig von Henel and the Hungarian traveller Samuel Teleki. They named the lake after the Austrian Crown Prince Rudolf. The current name has been given to Lake Turkana in the 1970s. Today the two names are used in different sources. The beautiful lake, on whose territory there are several volcanic islands, has a lot of interesting features.
The lake is mainly known for a huge crocodile population consisting of about 12000 crocodiles. The area is also interesting from an archaeological point of view. In addition to the lake, the researchers have found a lot of interesting prehistoric artifacts. The oldest stone tools in the world whose age, according to scientists' estimates, is about 3.3 million years have been discovered on the shores of the lake. The southern island is the largest and the most famous among the volcanic islands. On this island there are some active volcanoes. The flora and fauna of the island are quite modest.
