In Mauritania lies a remarkable coastal park Banc d'Arguin, which amazes travellers with a variety of landscapes and exotic inhabitants. The nature reserve is located on the coastal territory of the Atlantic. Its guests can see wonderful sand dunes, small islands and coastal marshes, as well as to get acquainted with the amazing inhabitants of the local fauna.
Many travellers visit the nature reserve to observe dolphins and rare sea turtles from the coast. The National Park also attracts numerous ornithologists. Dozens of species of migratory birds spend winter here. The park was founded in 1976. Since its founding, Banc d'Arguin is the largest coastal park in Africa. Its area is about 1200000 hectares, more than half of this area is occupied by the sea territory.
Most tourists wander through the mainland part of the nature reserve. At certain season you can see more than 200 bird species. In addition, about 20 species of mammals live in the park, including the sandy fox, rare species of gazelles, striped noble marten and African wildcat. Travellers visiting the coastal areas of the nature reserve have a chance to see rare monk seals, the largest population of which lives near Cape Blanc.
