Avila, Spain

Avila is a Spanish town of the incredible beauty. It has placed on the right shore of the Adaha river. The first strengthening structures were built there at the time of the Rome Empire. Nowadays guests of the town can adore with the medieval monuments. The immense fort wall surrounds the town. It has been built from the 11th till the 14th century. Its length is over 2 500 meters long. The wall has 9 gates and 88 observe towers.

Avila, Spain In 1985 the defensive wall was included in a list of the world heritage of UNESCO. The Cathedral of Ávila is another valuable historical monument. It’s an impenetrable view, thanks to that, it resembles the old fortress. The cathedral has begun to build in the 11th century. Only after 300 years it was finished. Originally it was a complex of the unique defensive town constructions. Nowadays some parts of the cathedral were converted into a museum. There are kept valuable historical and artistic artefacts. More than that, there you can see the unique El Greco works.

Saint Theresia is the protectrix of the old Spanish town. A great number of landmarks are connected with her name and life. San Juan Bautista is the old church with the font. According to the legend, in this church the Saint Protectrix was baptized. The old monastery Encarnación, where Saint Teresa of Ávila has spent 27 years of her life, is also saved.
