Kerouac felt inspired all of sudden, and it could happen anywhere, so he had to write on any piece of paper available. That is how he used a 36-meter long roll of toilet paper – it took him only several hours to write down his famous “On the Road” novel. The historic New York hotel is well-known to fans of Alphaeus Cole – the painter spent last years of his life at the hotel and died at Chelsea when he was 112 years old. The opening of the famous hotel took place in 1905. Chelsea has been closed not long ago, and it is not clearly known when the hotel will greet its guests again, but despite that, the hotel is still an important historic landmark of New York. It might happen that the hotel will reopen but under another name.
