It is believed that a special kind of soup "chowder" was invented in Manhattan, which you can find in local restaurants under the name "Manhattan clam chowder".
To prepare this soup, you need 200 g of any clams, 200 g of tomato puree, 100 g of bacon, 1 medium onion, 1 carrot and 2 medium potatoes. Bacon cut into small slices and fried until crisp in a deep frying pan, then set aside in another bowl.
In the oil left after the bacon, you need to fry finely chopped onions and carrots, in some versions of the dish you should add a few finely chopped celery stalks. Add tomato puree to roasted vegetables and stew it for 5-7 minutes. After that, you should put the fried vegetables into a saucepan, add water to obtain a liquid broth and cook over low heat for about 30 minutes.
