In addition to the driving license, foreign drivers will only need to have the vehicle certificate and the “green card”. In case you have a document like car insurance, it is recommended to take it as well.
You will need to pay in order to drive on certain roads. In most cases, enters to such roads are equipped with large blue boards with the «RO-VINIETA» mark. In order to get the right to use paid national roads, you must purchase the "vignette". You can buy it for a week, a month, for three months or for a year. The cost in this case will be 3, 7, 15 and 30 euro respectively.
"Vignette" is an ordinary check, and the driver should always keep it. You can purchase the vignette at customs, as well as at Rompetrol, OMV and MOL petrol stations. If previously the "vignette" needed to be attached to the windshield, today its presence is checked automatically. The cameras, installed on roads of the country, simply compare the numbers of cars passing by with the purchased vignettes. If there is no record about your car, you will be issued a fine. The fine for using national roads without the “vignette” is from 60 to 120 euro.
