Airport location, terminals and transportation

New Chitose Airport is located on Hokkaidō Island in Japan, 5 km from Chitose and Tomakomai. CTS has an international status and is the largest airport in the country. New Chitose Airport was built and opened in 1991 to replace Old Chitose Airport that was used by the Japanese Air Forces and served civil flights at the same time. At the airport, there are four air-strips. The airfield of New Chitose borders the military air base of Chitose and has common taxiways, which lets use air-strips of the base for civil flights if necessary.

Annual passenger turnover is about 21 million people. At the airport, there are two terminals, international and domestic. New Chitose is open 24 hours a day but the number of flights is limited at night. There are also restrictions of the number of flights due to the nearby military airfield of Chitose.

At New Chitose, there is a railway station at the ground level of the domestic terminal. Here, you can catch an express train to the city of Sapporo. Public buses go from the airport to Tomakomai, Sapporo, and other cities and towns. Bus, transfer, and charter stops are located at the first levels of international and domestic terminals. Passengers can also take a taxi at taxi ranks near the terminal.

Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car

Car rental services are provided in both domestic and international terminal. There are the following car rental companies in the central part of the domestic terminal: Nissan rent a car, Honda rent a car, World net rent a car, JR Hokkaido rent a car, OTS, Times, Orix, Nippon, Hokkaido Bubu rent a car, Budget, Toyota car rental. As there are no convenient parking lots for rented cars in front of the passenger terminal, passengers can take a free shuttle transfer to the place where they can get (and return) a car. Desks of car rental companies are situated in the international terminal at the first level.

The working hours of most of the companies coincide: they are open from 8 am to 7-8 pm. To learn if the night service is possible, you can contact the chosen company for booking a car in advance and for the details by phone numbers specified on the website of the airport.

Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby

At the airport, parking services are provided 24 hours a day. There are three outdoor parking lots: A, B, C. Lots A and B are located between terminals. The small parking lot C is located not far from the terminal. The Air Terminal hotel is located in the domestic terminal.
