Airport location, terminals and transportation
Fukuoka Airport is located in the Japanese city of Fukuoka. The airport serves international and domestic flights. FUK Airport is the main airport on Kyushu Island and is the fourth busiest airport in the country. Despite the fact that the airport has only one air-strip, it annually services about 23 million passengers. The airport is located only 3 km from the city. There is a ban on night flights from 22:00 to 7:00.
The air hub was built in the period of the Second World War in 1944 as a base for the Japanese Air Forces. In 1945, the base passed to the American military management. In 1972, the airport passed to Japan again. At Fukuoka Airport, there are two terminals: domestic (that consists of 3 subterminals) and international. Terminals are served by a free transfer.
From Fukuoka Airport, you can reach the city by metro (from the domestic terminal, subterminal 2), bus (that runs from international and domestic terminals), car, or taxi.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
You can also rent a car in both terminals, international and domestic. At the airport, there are the offices of the following car rental companies: Budget rent a car, Times car rental, ORIX car rental (My energy rental), Europcar. At the airport, there are also national car rental companies: Nissan rent a car solutions, The Fukuoka, Nico.
You can order a car at the first level of the terminal, at information desks that are located in passenger terminals (in the domestic one, in the southern and northern parts of the level 1F). In the international terminal, the rental station is located in the center of the arrival concourse 1F, as well as at the level 3F in the departure concourse, in the center of the terminal. Car rental points are open from 7:30 to 20:00.
Times car rental and Nico offer a free transfer from the major terminal to the place where you can get a car.
You can book a car by phone number specified on the airport’s website (in the domestic and international terminal). Cars are received and returned to the parking area near terminals.
Besides car rental companies, there are car-sharing companies, which services are provided at information desks at Fukuoka Airport.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
The parking complex at the airport consists of several parking lots: an outdoor lot near the international terminal, a non-covered lot near the domestic terminal, and a multi-level garage connected with the terminal by the covered air crossing. Parking tariffs depend on the size of the vehicle: a motorcycle, a car, a bus, or a truck. Parking in any lot is free if it does not exceed 30 minutes.
There are several hotels 2-3 km from the airport: The B Hakata, Hakata Green hotel, Hyatt Regency, Richmond hotel, Forza, WBF Grande, Sunlife hotel, Clio Court, Leopalace, etc.
