Airport location, terminals and transportation

Kushiro Airport is located on Hokkaidō Island, Japan. Kushiro Airport is 20 km from the city of Kushiro. Besides domestic flights, the airport serves charter international flights to South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The airport was opened in 1961. The air-strip was broadened and modernized several times. The passenger terminal was rebuilt in 1996. The terminal is open from 7:30 am to 8:30 pm.

From the airport, you can travel to the city of Kushiro by bus that goes by the railway station, the shopping center and different districts of the city. There is no railway connection to the city. Although, there are lots of car rental companies. At the airport, there are also several official and private taxi ranks. Near the territory of the airport, there are wild animals’ paths that make driving on the highway more difficult. You can catch any vehicle at the roadside in front of the terminal.

Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car

At KUH, car rental services are provided by the following companies: Nissan rent a car, Nippon rent a car, Times car rental, Orix, Toyota rental and leasing, Tsuruoka car rental. These companies’ offices are situated in the terminal concourse. To find them, you need to go out of the baggage claim area and go to the exit from the terminal.

Companies offer to make an order in several ways: 1) an online pre-order via online services and apps; 2) phone booking via company offices at the airport (you can find the contact data on the website of the airport); 3) visiting of car rental points upon your arrival at the airport. Companies provide vehicles of all classes. The working hours of company offices match the time schedule of the airport, so it is impossible to rent a car at night.

Most of the companies’ offices are open from 8:30 am to 7 pm.

In addition to information desks in the passenger terminal, there is a special parking area for rented cars in the territory of the airport. The parking area consists of lots of car rental companies. Every company has its service point in this parking area. The special lot is located behind the general parking lot, within walking distance from the terminal.

You can get a car in the special lot near the terminal. To find it, you need to go out of the terminal, turn left and turn round the corner of the terminal. Cars are returned to special lots for rented cars or to the site of getting/returning cars near the terminal.

Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby

There is a non-covered parking lot in front of the passenger terminal. The parking area is open from 9 am to 9 pm. There is no access to the territory of the airport from 10 am to 6 pm. Parking is free if it does not exceed 30 minutes.

The hotels that are close to the airport are: Guesthouse cooka doodle doo, Yamahana Onsen Refre, Woody Hotel and Restaurant Yumekobou.
