The city is prominent for its gorgeous religious sites. The beautiful mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi is an excellent confirmation of the fact that there are interesting temples in the city. Everything is beautiful here, both on the outside and the inside. The building is surrounded by colorful residences and greenery. Another interesting place of worship is the El Qaed Ibrahim Mosque. It is one of the most recognizable sights of Alexandria. It was built in the year 1948 by the architect called Mario Rossi. The building impresses everyone with its architecture. On the other hand, the interior decoration can also amaze an inexperienced tourist. One cannot help but mention the St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, a monumental building which has also a historical value.
There are many wonderful sculptures in the city. Among them you should see Serapéion, which is next to Pompey’s Pillar and stands out as a monument to an unknown sea soldier. It is erected in memory of those whose permanent residence became the sea after their death. You will find the structure near the marine base. Pompey’s Pillar telling about the ancient times, rises like a warning tower of the city, which gives a signal to Serapéion. In his turn, Serapéion will defend the city when it is needed. The monument was built on the site of the Serapeum of Alexandria which was destroyed at the end of the 4th century.
