Another contender for the most curious historical sight is the Botanic Garden that was founded in the 19th century. Today, hundreds of plant species that have been brought from different parts of the world are present in the garden. Several older plants have also been preserved here, some of which were planted more than a hundred years ago. For those fond of nature and outdoor recreation, the Adelaide hills remain a favourite pastime. It is an incredibly beautiful terrain, covered with dense green thickets. Here you can go for a walk, and admire the diversity of exotic plants and trees. Throughout the extensive territory there are also several designated areas that are suitable for a picnic.
Adelaide Zoo is one of the largest and oldest in Australia, and is appealing to both adults and kids. The opening of the zoo took place in 1883, and is now home to more than 300 species of animals. Among the local inhabitants there are not only some traditional representatives of Australian fauna, but also some rare ones, including Sumatran tigers. The zoo is fascinating in its beauty, and is ideal for walking strolls. It features several unique architectural constructions, among which is the world-famous Elephant House. There are various exhibitions and entertainment events regularly held on site.
