Massive fire badly damaged a bigger part of the historical center of Rennes at the beginning of the 18th century. Still the city has preserved several architectural landmarks and historical monuments which have been reconstructed and today appear in all their glory. The Parliament palace will be of great interest to visit for curious tourists. Its recently renovated building is used now for various cultural events, young artists and photographers present their works in beautiful halls of the palace.
Those travelers interested in different art trends need to visit the Rennes Museum of Fine Arts located near the palace. Its collection performs various works of old-school masters and a unique collection of masterpieces by local expressionists. A picturesque square named Saint-Ann will be a perfect place for hiking. Tourists will discover several monuments of historic significance in close vicinity to the square. This district is a small part of the city which was almost untouched by the fire.
