The castle is located on a rocky promontory above the Tepla River. Several centuries ago an important trading route was located here. For many years the castle remained the main protective facility of the region. This was the place where traders brought the customs fee. Not so long ago a reliquary was found in the territory of the castle. The treasury and main hall of the castle were repaired and now they are available to the public.
Loket Castle is an important architectural monument of the Middle Ages. Nowadays it has been turned into a museum, where visitors can see a rich collection of porcelain. Several centuries ago the castle was the main hunting residence of the Luxembourg kings. The modern setting of its premises is almost similar to the one that was there in the 19th century. The Church of Peter and Paul is one of the main religious sites of the city. The beautiful church was built in late 19th century and is a replica of classic Byzantine structures. The main relics of the church are ancient icons. These icons were a present of Russian Emperor Nicholas II.
