This world famous spa resort is renowned for its priceless historical monuments. Karlovy Vary will be surely liked by travellers who enjoy excursions and cannot imagine a vacation without long and unhurried walks. Mill Colonnade remains the main symbol of the resort for over a hundred years. The construction of the colonnade was started in 1871 and lasted 10 years. The construction works of the project were headed by famous Czech architect Josef Zietek. Originally he planned to build a large-scale three-story building.
The project was so complicated that the treasury of the city simply had no enough funds to implement it. Therefore, the architect had to change the project quickly. The result of his hard work now can be seen on the embankment of the Tepla River. A visit to Brechov fortress is an obligatory part of any excursion program. The fortress was built in the 13th century and is considered one of the oldest buildings of the city.
The castle is located on a rocky promontory above the Tepla River. Several centuries ago an important trading route was located here. For many years the castle remained the main protective facility of the region. This was the place where traders brought the customs fee. Not so long ago a reliquary was found in the territory of the castle. The treasury and main hall of the castle were repaired and now they are available to the public.
