Complete photogallery Complete photogallery
Rapid vehicle flows, thousands eternally hurrying people, giant plants which are responsible for numerous ecological disasters… life in such an atmosphere makes one forget about the importance of unity with nature. Very few places are left on the planet where no human being has ever set foot. Much of bountiful gifts of nature has long been sacrificed to all-consuming technological innovation. Nevertheless, some picturesque corners of the earth maintain their pristine beauty and harmony. Nowadays, they remain under vigilant human protection. Visits to nature preserves are extremely popular among lovers of active travelling. And if some of them require hours to explore, so it will take years to study the others. Among the most unique preserves there are, of course, confident leaders in scales and varieties of sights.

Заповедник Аир и Тенере, Niger

Air and Tenere is one of the largest protected areas in Africa of around 77360 square kilometres. It is located in northern part of Niger and boasts a variety of landscapes. In the reserve, which is annually visited by more than 4000 tourists, you can admire 40 species of mammals, more than 150 species of birds and about 20 species of reptiles, as well as rare species of amphibians.

Заповедник Аир и Тенере, Niger Although a significant part of the reserve is covered by a desert, this doesn’t in any way undervalue Air and Tenere’s natural splendour. The desert is full of dunes, whose height often exceeds 300 meters. Marble hills Kogo, blue mountains and Takaloukouzet peak are also worth mentioning. Arakao Crater is the most mysterious spot in the desert, it is believed to have been formed millions of years ago as a result of the fall of a huge meteorite.

The desert land attracted a huge number of hunters a hundred years in the past. As a result, the population of lions, African Wild dogs and other large predators have been hunted to extinction. The Air and Tenere Natural Reserve is under state protection since 1988. Nowadays, its visitors can observe rare species of jackals and eared foxes and the most fortunate individuals will be lucky enough to meet caracal or sandy coyote. The reserve is also famous for its cave drawings and the ruins of ancient towns. Next - Заповедник Папаханаумокуакеа
