A very unusual Doll Museum is open in Basel; it is the largest museum of its kind in Europe. Its halls present more than 6000 antique toys, the age of some of them is more than 150 years. This museum will be interesting to visit not only for tourists with kids, but also for adults, it is very popular among collectors. Here you can see rare antique dolls, handmade soft toys that are sewn over a hundred years ago, as well as incredibly beautiful dollhouses.Â
Among the religious monuments deserves special attention the Church of St. Elizabeth. This is the largest church in Switzerland, built in neo-Gothic style, its construction was completed in 1864 and took just 7 years. The Church was able to almost completely preserve its unique interior trim, and today visitors can admire the skilful altar stained-glass windows and see the old organ. The current church is largely focused on tourists, a part of the historic buildings occupied by a small cafe, and there is even an observation deck. To climb it, visitors must overcome the 228 steps of the steep spiral staircase.Â
Another curious symbol of Basel is the Les Trois Rois Hotel, the first mention of which relates to 1681. This wonderful historic hotel is functioning now, its rooms with unique interior booked many months in advance.
