Airport location, terminals and transportation
Zurich Airport is the largest international airport in Switzerland. Each year it handles over 30 million passengers. The airport serves several country regions. It’s situated 13 km away from the city centre. ZRH has 3 runways, two of which are used for heavy wide-body aircraft. The airport was built and started to operate in the late 50s. There are the following passenger terminals: A, B/D, E. Passengers for Schengen (Terminal A) and non-Schengen (Terminal E) flights are served in different areas. Terminal B/D handles all types of passengers. Terminal E is connected with the main terminal through Skymetro, an underground passenger transportation system.
There’s a railway station under the airport which is connected to many Swiss cities and some European ones. You can also reach the city by tram (Routes 10, 12) and by bus. A large bus and tram stations are situated near the main terminal, between Parking P2 and Parking P3. City and regional buses regularly depart from the airport, and special buses take guests to ski resorts. Taxi and limousine parking lots are located next to the exits from arrivals lounges 1 and 2.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
You can book a car in advance and get it at Zurich Airport. There are several large car rental companies operating at ZRH: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Dollar, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, National, Sixt. A national car rental company called Flughafen Zurich can also be found at the airport.
The companies’ offices are situated on the first level of the airport, near Exit 3. From there you can directly get to Garage P3. A car can be taken on Parking P3. The car rental centre is open from 6 am till 23.30 pm. The cars are returned to a special parking lot for rental vehicles in Garage P3. To get there, entering the airport, you need to follow the signs leading to “Rental car return”.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
There are several roofed garages – P1, P2, P3 – situated opposite the terminal entrances. These car parks offer short-term parking services for up to 2 days. They have a direct exit to the corresponding check-in areas. Long-term parking for over 2 days is available in Garage P6. There are also open-air long-term economy parking lots – P60, P16, P17 – that can only be reserved in advance. A valet parking lot is available near the entrance to Terminal A.
A free 5-minute stop for unloading passengers is allowed near the entrances to check-in halls 1 and 2. To unload the passengers needing check-in hall 3, you have to use Parking P3.
Some hotels in the city and near the airport organize transfer from and to the airline hub. Shuttles depart from Exit 2 from the arrivals lounge. The following hotels are several minutes’ drive from ZRH: Apart-Hotel, Hilton, Holiday Inn Express, Allegro, Fly away, Ibis, Movenpick, NH, Novotel, Park Inn, Welcome Inn.
