The latest major reconstruction was completed about 20 years ago. The aquarium got several new buildings, one of which was given to a research institute. The center's exhibition area is about 3,000 square meters. Visitors to the aquarium can see as many as 65 pools, which currently contain more than a thousand marine creatures belonging to over 150 species. Informative tours are held for visitors every day. A significant part of guests is local schoolchildren and students, for whom educational programs are organized here throughout the year.
Apart from visiting entertainment centers, tourists can diversify their leisure time by riding along the canals of Livorno. During the boat trip, you can admire the most beautiful historic districts, many architectural monuments look exceptionally from the water. The most popular area for walks is the waterfront with numerous cafes, restaurants, and shops stretching along it. Here is the wonderful Mascagni Terrace surrounded by centuries-old trees. The terrace is equipped with recreation zones. It is very nice to watch the sunset and comfortable to relax here even in hot weather thanks to the trees.
Livorno can hardly be called a typical beach resort, however, a few well-equipped small beaches can still be found within the city. In the immediate vicinity of the city, there is a gorgeous beach, the length of which is about 10 km. It is a series of organized and completely wild stretches of the coast, so absolutely everyone can choose a place to relax here.
