Airport location, terminals and transportation
Munich Airport, also known as Franz Josef Strauss Airport, is an international airport situated in the territory of Upper Bavaria. The air terminal began operation in the '90s of the previous century. It was named in honour of one of Bavarian politicians, who influenced the decision on its construction. Munich Airport is the second busiest airport in Germany in terms of passenger traffic, as it services about 40 million people a year. The airport consists of two passenger terminals and 2 runways. Terminal 1 is subdivided into five modules designated A, B, C, D and E. This terminal also comprises the central area Z. Hall F is separate and is located closer to Terminal 2. Terminal 2 has a satellite terminal. A fully automated people mover transport passengers between T2 and the satellite terminal.
Munich suburban railway (S-Bahn) line runs from the city via the terminals. The city of Freising can be reached by bus MVV 635. Railway trains run from this city in various directions, including Munich. Lufthansa Airport bus takes passengers to the city underground station and Munich Central Station.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
Such international car rental companies as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Alamo, Enterprise, Dollar, Hertz, National, and Thrifty operate at the airport. Such national car rental firms as Buchbinder, Global, and Flizzr also have their representative offices at the airport. The offices of the companies are found in the Car Rental Centre. The Car Rental Centre is positioned opposite the Hilton Hotel in the territory of the airport (around Terminal 2).
The clients conclude the rental agreement and receive the keys to their leased cars in the Car Rental Centre. The rental cars are returned to garage P26 or on the north side of parking P9. You can leave the car behind the entrance to the Service Centre. This centre is located at the following address: Mietwagenzentrum Bereichvor der Sicherheitskontrolle, StraßeTerminalstraße Mitte, PLZ / Ort85356 München.
The majority of the companies are closed at night (except for Europcar, which is open round the clock, without days off). The working hours of the selected vehicle rental company should be specified in good time.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
The airport encompasses 5 car parks and 6 underground garages. At the airport, you can take advantage of valet parking services in Terminals 1 and 2 and also make use of the service package "Park, Sleep and Fly" in the nearby hotel. Parking in parking garage P20 is free for up to 3 hours. Besides, you are allowed to park in the short-term car park for half an hour free of charge. Car park P8 provides economy parking offers from time to time (during vacations and holidays). A free shuttle bus runs between the car parks and the terminals. In addition, you may use suburban train.
The Hilton Hotels & Resorts is set next to Terminal 2. The following hotels are nestled not far from the territory of the airport: the Novotel, the Holiday Inn Express, the Moxy, the NH München Airport, the Arcadia, the Ibis, the Hallbergerhof, the Mövenpick, the B&B Hotel, and the Mercure.
