If you’ve already visited all most popular tourist places in Vienna and now crave for something new and unexplored, it’s time to make a walk in Simmering district. The landmark located there is rarely present in classical tourist guides, so not everyone knows about it. The picturesque district is home to ancient Vienna Gasometers - giant reservoirs for gas that were constructed yet at the end of the 19th century.
With time, the reservoirs lost their initial importance. Several years ago, they were rebuilt. Nowadays, an unusual settlement is located there, and it has offices, residential space, shops, and even entertainment venues. A walk in such an old industrial space promises to be an exciting one! The gasometers still have elements of the original design, and after the restoration they look incredible. After a walk in the unusual quarter, do not hurry to leave Simmering. Look at landscape decorations near the gasometers, and examine the facades carefully. There is a large face on one of them. A century ago, that face showed gas pressure. One more interesting architecture landmark, Dancing houses, is located nearby.
