It is a matter of pride for Marseillais that it is their city that has given France its national anthem and that the city has so specific a background. However, not everything went smooth down its historic pathway. There were times when criminal activity nearly smothered the city's economy. Fortunately, those days are long gone, as its people have invested a good deal to clear the city of all blemishes. There is one crucial thing the city has successfully carried through time and ordeals – its inimitable and enchanting aura.

The rapidly evolving trends in music and fashion, combined with the influx of youth from other areas, have given the city pretty much of a charge. With the advent of high speed railroads, Paris and London got within reach for Marseille. This, in turn, attracted people from these and many other regions and extended the range of opportunities for them to study the wonderful neighborhood of Provence.

The climate in Marseille is mild, with hot and sunny summer and cool winter. The city enjoys a large amount of sunshine, probably due to mistral winds that blow here regularly. These winds are conducive to some traditional sea navigation activities.
