Airport location, terminals and transportation
Tampa International Airport is located 10 km from the eponymous city's centre in the state of Florida. Its history dates back to the '30s of the last century. The airport was placed under military control several times, but started handling civilian flights in the '50s of the previous century. It received the status of the international airport in 1950. The airport stands out among other airports for its architectural solutions. It encompasses 3 runways and a helicopter pad. The Central terminal is connected with 4 satellite terminals (A, C, E, and F) with the help of the SkyConnect automated people mover system. The passenger traffic of the airport amounts to 19.5 million people per year. The airport operates domestic flights, as well as the flights to Europe, Central America and Cuba.
The taxi is the easiest way to get from TPA to Tampa and other localities. You can also book a shared minibus, or take advantage of limousine services. SuperShuttle serves the following counties: Hillsborough, Pinellas Park, Hernando, and Pasco. Shuttle buses to Hillsborough County and Pinellas Park depart from the stops positioned in the Rental Car Center.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
The Consolidated Rental Car Center at TPA is situated south of the Main Terminal building (next to an economy parking lot). It is connected with the terminal by means of the SkyConnect. Passengers are picked up and dropped off at the stops on the sidelines near the Rental Car Center. The automated people mover system line goes from the Rental Car Center to the economy parking lot. Due to the great number of customers which make use of car rental services at Tampa International Airport, it occupies the 5th place among all the air terminals of the United States.
The airport features a wide range of major vehicle hire companies. These are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Thrifty, Ace Rent A Car, Fox, Payless, Sixt, Zipcar, Advantage, E-Z, and Executive. Furthermore, you can take advantage of the services of Carls van rentals, the firm which offers rental vans for hire. The companies, which have the rental car collection points outside the territory of the airport, provide a free shuttle service to the car pick-up area. The shuttles pick up the clients from either side of the baggage claim area (on the red and blue sides of the terminal).
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
A long-term parking garage is connected to the terminal by a pedestrian walkway on Level 2 and the Monorail from Level 5. A short-term parking garage is found above the Main Terminal (Levels 4-9). Passengers are taken to an economy parking lot with the help of the SkyConnect automated people mover system (the 1st floor of the parking garage). If necessary, you can take advantage of valet parking services on the 5th level of the short-term parking garage. There is a separate access to it. The first 60 minutes in the short-term and long-term parking garages are free of charge. The spaces for parking and charging electric vehicles are available.
The Marriott Hotel is set next to the Main Terminal (between the Main Terminal and Terminal C). A free shuttle serves the following hotels nestled within a 5-kilometre radius of the airport: the Homewood Suites by Hilton, the Hilton Garden Inn, and the Towne Place Suites.
