Airport location, terminals and transportation
General Mitchell International Airport is located 7 km from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. The airport is used by civil and military aviation. In 1941, the airport was named after the US General, U. Mitchell, who was born in Milwaukee and was the pioneer of the US Air Force. Before this, the airport had been named Hamilton after its founder who built it in 1920. In 1926, the owner and the name of the airport were changed. It became the Airport of Milwaukee. Mitchell Airport services the whole state, the north of Illinois and the part of Chicago. At the airport, there are five air-strips. There are three concourses in the passenger terminal. The annual passenger traffic is almost 10 million people.
At the airport, public transport is provided by the Amtrak Company. The railway station is located in the territory of the airport and links the airport with Milwaukee and Chicago. Transport services at the airport are also provided by shuttle transfers, several licensed taxi companies (that are located at the exit from the baggage claim terminal #3), network transport companies Uber and Lyft (the exit from the baggage claim terminal #2), and limos (the service is available in the garage). From the airport, public bus #80 and charter buses (the stop is near the exit #1) run to Milwaukee.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
Car rental services are provided by the following companies: Dollar, Thrifty, Alamo, National, Hertz, Avis, Budget, and Enterprise. These companies’ offices are located opposite taxi ranks and stops of shuttle transfers at the ground level of the garage. To get to these car rental companies’ points, you need to go out of the baggage claim area and go to the car rental center. From the terminal, you can reach the garage through the 3rd level by the Skywalks crossing; then, go down to the ground level and go to the car rental stands.
Cars are taken in the rental center that is located at the first and second levels of the covered parking area in front of the terminal. Cars are returned to the first and second levels of the garage too. The entrance to the car rental center is located opposite the exit from the terminal and the taxi rank.

Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
There are different types of parking lots at Mitchell Airport: hourly and daily (in the garage), non-covered (at the ground level), SuperSaver (an economy lot that is served by a free shuttle), and a special lot for Amtrak passengers. The parking in the hourly lot, non-covered lot or the Cell Phone lot is free if it doesn’t exceed 30 minutes. Parking lots are open 24 hours a day. The garage is linked with the passenger terminal by the aerial crossing with the Skywalks travelator.
