Kristianstadt is a city in the southern part of Sweden. It is located in the mouth of the Helge River on the north of Hammarsjön Island. The city is the administrative center of Kristianstadt district. The population of this place estimated 77,000 of people in 2009. Today the city is also an administrative center of the local council Skone. Previously Kristianstadt has been an important military barracks center.
This city is famous for well-developed metal processing, sewing and textile industries. Kristianstadt is also famous for machinery building.
In Kristianstadt is located the lowest spot of Sweden – 2.41 meters below the sea level. Because of this fact the city has to be always protected from water by a system of dams equipped with pumps.
Kristianstadt is surrounded by a large valley. There are only two relatively tall hills on north-east and east. These hills are called Kjugekull and Balsberget respectively. South to the city is located a small territory that has got the title of the only rainforest of Sweden.
If you want to observe sights of Kristianstadt, make a walk on the center of the city. Go to main streets that are called boulevards, visit City’s Gates, Stora kronohuset (a former building of military court), railway station, look at numerous beautiful hotels and observe Heliga Trefaldighetskyrkan Church and Kvarnen Theatre.
