One of the most visited cultural facilities in the city is the Surinaams Museum, the extensive collection of which is currently presented in three separate branches. The Mosque Keizerstraat is one of the most beautiful historical monuments not only in the city but also in the country. The very first mosque on its site was built in the first half of the 20th century. it was quite a modest wooden structure. Later it was decided to rebuild the mosque. Its large-scale reconstruction was completed in 1984. Now the magnificent mosque is famous for its sophisticated exterior and rich interior decoration.

A unique landmark of world significance is the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul, the height of which reaches 44 meters. The religious monument's main feature is being completely wooden. Since its construction, it is the tallest wooden building in the Western Hemisphere. The beautiful cathedral building was erected in 1885. It is striking in its scale: the cathedral's hall can accommodate up to 900 parishioners.
