Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is considered to be the largest airport in Hungary serving mainly the capital – the city of Budapest. It is located 15 km away from Budapest. It was built and started to operate in the early 1950s. It was first named Ferihegy after a former owner of the territory where the airport was built. However, in 2011, it was renamed in honour of Franz Liszt, a world-renowned Hungarian composer whose 200th anniversary was celebrated in 2011. Budapest Airport serves flights to Europe, Africa, the Middle and Far East as well as North America. The total number of passengers handled by the airport every year is 15 million.

There are two runways at BUD. Both runways can accept heavy wide-body aircraft. Passengers are served in terminals 2A (for the Schengen Area) and 2B (for other directions) as well as in Sky Court which is a passenger complex with lounges and shopping areas situated between the two terminals and connected with them.

There is also a magnificent oceanarium & tropicarium in the city, exotic inhabitants of which will be certainly liked by youngest travellers. Children will be excited to see beautiful aquariums with exotic fish, manmade lakes, and even cages with crocodiles and other reptiles. The Budapest oceanarium is the biggest one in the world and occupies the space of 3,000 sq. meters. An 11-meter long glass tunnel remains the biggest attraction of the oceanarium. A walk in the tunnel will let you enjoy the splendor of the underwater world.

If sports related activities look very appealing, don’t forget to visit Margaret Island. It is located right in the heart of the city, and it’s possible to reach the island by special bridges. This is an amazingly beautiful and comfortable place that is simply full of lush greenery. Here, among beautiful parks and gardens, visitors will find various recreation grounds, beautiful relaxation zones with fountains and even a mini-zoo. Bicycle rickshaws, which can be seen everywhere on the island, have become one more peculiarity of the island.
