In the neighborhoods of the city, there are many natural and manmade landmarks that deserve the attention of tourists. Greek Pyramids are definitely one of these sights. The pyramids were built approximately 3,000 years BC. At a distance of fifty kilometers of Kalamata, there are three ancient constructions that have survived until our time in a relatively good condition. There are still archaeological excavations and studies in this area. It is possible to reach the pyramids by car or book an excursion to this landmark. Besides the ancient pyramids, tourists will be able to admire the breathtaking nature of Greece.
Ridomo Gorge is one more spectacular landmark that is famous for its marvelous views. The gorge is also home to many unique species of animals and plants, many of which are endemic. Before you start this journey, it is better to keep in mind that the path to the paradise area is not easy. Don’t forget to prepare comfortable shoes and clothes, sunglasses, and drinking water. Because of the same reason, it is not recommended to try to find the gorge independently. Moreover, there are always many interesting excursions in this area.
A short ride to the nearby town of Mystras will take curious travelers to one more wonderful landmark, Villehardouin’s Castle. It is an ancient fortress that was built during the crusade period. Nowadays, the castle is severely damaged, but it is located on a hill that offers a spectacular view of the Kalamata region.
