Perhaps, beautiful cathedrals and churches remain the main attractions of the city. There are 27 religious places of interest in total in Aachen. Aachener Dom Cathedral is the most notable of them. This is a beautiful Gothic building, in which were crowned German emperors. Cathedral of St. Mary is a no less remarkable place. The church was built in the end of the 19th century.
The local synagogue is an outstanding architectural monument, which is built in the Moorish style. One more important place of interest is located near Market Square. We are talking about the building of City Hall. The construction of the buildings was completed in 1353. Today tourists have a unique opportunity to visit the magnificent City Hall, where took place the coronation of 96 German rulers. In 1888 the building was severely damaged by fire, but thanks to the efforts of professional architects it was then completely restored. The walls of the hall are decorated with beautiful frescoes, which show important historical events of past centuries.
