Limassol (Lemessos) is the second-largest city on Cyprus, with a population of 176,900, the largest city in geographical size, and the biggest municipality on the island. The city is located on Akrotiri Bay, on the island's southern coast and it is the capital of Limassol District. It is Cyprus´ main industrial and maritime area and also the second biggest town of the country. Its population is continuously growing due to great amounts of tourists. The majority of tourists happen to be in Limassol only as an intermediate city on their way to the more historic sites like Akrotiri or the Troodos mountains. But there are also sights in Limassol itself that are worth visiting. Among such places we should name Berengaria Castle, the place where Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria, Kolossi Castle, the ancient city of Curium and its theatre which is still functioning, amathunta and many other archeological spots scattered around the city.
If you are interested in nightlife you should visit Yermasogea, a special tourist area of Limassol, where both locals and tourists meet in the great number of clubs and bars. Though the city of the centre may be also interesting for tourists as it is ready to present its variety of shops, artists and some other things deserving your attention.
