At first glance, the locals may seem proud and arrogant, but, in fact, they are quite welcoming and very friendly to visitors. Citizens of Innsbruck are very polite and courteous. They raise their voices rarely and usually hide their emotions (because of this they may seem a bit strict). However, the natives are very sociable and really love to have fun. For them resting in a big company in one of the city's bars is simply the best way of pastime. There they can drink a couple of glasses of beer and tell their friends some of their favorite jokes.
There is such thing as a "social distance" in the city. While talking to local residents, it’s recommended to stand on the distance of an arm's length. A closer position during conversation is considered a violation of individual space. While meeting, people in Innsbruck greet each other with a light handshaking, which lasts only a couple of seconds. Closer friends and relatives can exchange cheek kisses. During the acquaintance with local people you should look into their eyes as straying eyes are a sign of neglect. However, the look should not be too fixed. During the acquaintance make sure you call your full name.
