December 2011 Results of European Chain Hotels
The latest study by TRI Hospitality, which covers ten major European cities, shows some very interesting information about the performance of hotels in European capitals. According to the study, a half of these cities reached the increase in Gross Operating Profit per Available Room (GOPPAR) in December 2011.
December was profitable for hotels in Paris, Berlin, Prague, and Warsaw. Here the increase of GOPPAR was a two-digit figure. The leader is Berlin, which accommodations showed a tremendous growth of GOPPAR of 24.5%. The increase of occupancy reached 6.9% and estimated 68% in total. The rates in Berlin hotels fell down by 2.6%, but due to the increase of occupancy RevPAR also grew by 8.6% and estimated €84.40. Hotels in Frankfurt showed quite negative results in December 2011 – here the occupancy fell by 8.6% to the level of 47.6% and this fact caused the decline of RevPAR (by 10%) and GOPPAR (by 49.5%).
Paris, Amsterdam, and London - three popular European destinations - show mixed results. Hotels in Paris show best results with the growth of GOPPAR of 14.2% and the growth of TrevPAR (total revenue per available room) of 5.2%. Performance of Amsterdam accommodations was more modest - +1.2% for TrevPAR and a slight decline of GOPPAR (-3.9%). Hotels in London also showed slight decreases in December 2011. Here TrevPAR and GOPPAR fell down by 1.1% and 5.8% respectively.
