Airport location, terminals and transportation
Pittsburgh International Airport is situated in the state of Pennsylvania. The distance between the airport and the centre of Pittsburgh amounts to roughly 30 km. Both military and civilian aircraft make shared use of the airfield. It is the second busiest airport in the state in terms of passenger traffic (about 9 million people). The airport mainly serves budget airlines. In 1942, it was built and put into operation as a military airfield. Later, the airport was modernized and named Greater Pittsburgh International Airport in 1952. It received the status of the international airport in 1972, when International Concourse C was opened. The airport encompasses 4 runways, 1 helicopter pad, and 2 passenger terminals. They are the Landside Terminal and the Airside Terminal. Airside Terminal is divided into 4 concourses: A, B, C, and D.
Bus number 28X goes from the centre of the city of Pittsburgh to PIT. Moreover, charter bus route number 29 runs through the airport. Official taxi services, limousine rental services, and vehicle hire services are available here.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
The baggage claim hall has the desks of vehicle hire agencies. They belong to Alamo, Enterprise, Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar, Budget, Avis, and National. The desks are placed beside the pedestrian crossing to the parking garage and the long-term parking lot. The Car Rental Centre is positioned next to the valet parking. Valet parking is found near the Landside Terminal, on the lower floor of the short-term parking garage, not far from International Concourse C. Here passengers can receive their leased cars. Rental car pick-up and return areas are located on the lower level of the parking garage. You should proceed to the lower level of the parking garage from the baggage claim hall on the 1st floor of the terminal, following the signs.
Car rental terms and conditions include age restriction for drivers, as they must not be below 25 years of age (the rental cost will be higher for the drivers aged between 21 and 24), as well as confirmation of the driving experience more than 1 year. Only credit cards are accepted for payment (not debit ones). You must present your identity card with a photo and your driver's license (with entries written in Latin script). Supplementary services are paid separately.
Long-term and short-term parking, hotels nearby
Pittsburgh International Airport disposes of three types of parking, which are long-term, short-term and extended parking. The short-term parking garage and the long-term parking lot are connected with the Landside Terminal by an enclosed moving walkway. Free shuttle service is available in the long-term parking lot. Extended economy parking lot includes 8,000 parking spaces. However, it is not connected with the Landside Terminal by the enclosed moving walkway. Free shuttles take passengers to or from the terminal. In the terminal, the shuttles pick up passengers at the baggage claim level, at Gates 6 and 8.
There is free parking for up to an hour in the Extended economy parking lot. The airport has the parking space rental program for regular customers (Gold Key Lot).
The Hyatt Regency hotel, that lies within the territory of the airport, is connected to the Landside Terminal by a moving walkway. The hotel comprises its own guest parking, and also provides a transfer service to and from the terminals. Such hotels as the Americas Best Value Inn (3 km) and the Hilton Garden Inn (2.9 km) are also within easy reach.
