One of the most picturesque places in the city is the Plaza de Espana, located near the port area. In this region, besides the original landscape decorations, there are many symbolic monuments, each of which reminds of an important turn in the history of the city. This square literally drowns in the abundance of green plantations. Next to it are several beautiful old buildings.
In the past, Cadiz was a major trading city. For hundreds of years, various defensive fortifications were built on it. Now a reminder of the trading past of the city are the 129 patrolling towers preserved on its territory, the most famous among them being Torre Tavira. It is located in the very center of the historical district and is its highest building. The tower rises to an altitude of 45 meters. Currently, within the walls of the tower is a very interesting museum dedicated to commerce. A significant part of the exhibits in it belongs to the 18th and 19th centuries.
One of the most visited tourist sites in the city is the Chapel of Saint Philip Neri, built in 1671. It was in the walls of this chapel that the adoption of the first constitution in the country took place, which is now reminiscent of the memorial plaque fixed on the facade. The church has a very unusual oval shape. Since its construction, it has preserved many original elements of decoration.
