4. You can pay the due sum in cash in both kuna and euro. However, even if you pay in euro, the change will be still given in kuna. Usual payment options also include credit cards of the following types: VISA, Maestro, Master Card, American Express, Diners Card and INA card. Many local drivers use electronic payment systems.
5. You will also be charged for using the bridge of Krk. The bridge connects the island with the same name with the mainland. The length of the bridge is 1,430 meters, the fare for using the bridge is approximately 35 kuna for a conventional car. The payment center is located at the entrance to the bridge, on the mainland.
6. A separate fee is charged for driving in the Učka tunnel, which is a part of the A8 motorway. The length of the tunnel is a bit more than 5 km, and the cost of one ride for passenger cars varies from 28 to 40 kuna, depending on the height of the vehicle.
7. The Mirna Bridge is also paid. Here the road passes through the picturesque valley of the river with the same name. The length of the bridge estimates 1355 meters, and it is a part of the A9 motorway. The fare for using the bridge ranges between 14 and 20 kuna.
8. In the city, the majority of parking lots are paid. It is possible to use them for free only on Sundays. In Zagreb, you will find parking lots of three types - red, yellow and green. Red parking lots are located in the center of the city and they are the most expensive. As a rule, it is possible to leave a car for no more than an hour at such parking lots.
9. Yellow and green parking lots are located at some distance from the center. It is permitted to leave cars at them for two and three hours respectively. All parking lots are equipped with special machines, through which the payments are made.
10. The ticket obtained through the ticket machine should be placed in a prominent place on the windshield of the car. Do not forget to return to the parking lot in time. If you leave your car for a longer time than required, the car’s wheels will be locked, and you will be able to get your car back once you pay the fine, the amount of which varies from 100 to 300 kuna.
11. In settlements, drivers are allowed to move at a speed that does not exceed 50 km/h, and on country roads the maximum allowed speed is 90 km/h. On motorways, the limit is 110 or 130 km/h, depending on the type of the road. Note that all the restrictions mentioned are valid in case there are no road signs with other directions.
12. The maximum allowed blood alcohol content for drivers is 0.5 ‰. Drivers under 24 years old are prohibited from drinking alcohol at all. If you pass the alcohol test, and your blood alcohol content is from 0.5 to 1.0‰, then you will be issued a fine that will range from 1,000 to 2,000 kuna.
