Among the cultural institutions, it is worth noting the Anthropological Museum. The opening of this museum was held relatively recently, in 2006. Among its exhibits, you can see toys and handicrafts made by local craftsmen: unique paintings, masks and sculptures, incredibly beautiful jewelry, objects from ceramics and glass. This museum is devoted to the most diverse kinds of folk art of Mexico. Since its opening, it has been one of the most visited in the country. On the territory of the museum, there is an excellent souvenir shop selling hand-made articles from various regions of the country.
The most unusual city attraction can safely be said to be the Cancun Underwater Museum. The basis of the exposition of this museum is the sculptures of Jason deCaires Taylor, devoted to a variety of social problems. In total, the museum presents more than 450 sculptures, all of which are placed on the seabed. These masterpieces of contemporary art can only be admired with pre-worn equipment for scuba diving. Such an original museum has its own goal which is that it encourages contemporaries to take care of the environment more carefully.
In the vicinity of Cancun, there are many unique reserves, including the biosphere reserve of Sian Ka’an. During walks on it you can see a lot of rare plants, and admire exotic birds.
