Gatwick Airport is considered the second largest airport in Great Britain. It is located in West Sussex between London and Brighton. Gatwick Airport is the main airport for charter airlines, which are not serviced by Heathrow Airport. It is also a major airport for international flights from North America to Great Britain. The passenger traffic makes up about 40 million people per year. The airport got its name from the old estate, on the territory of which LGW is now situated.
It became operational as an airport in the 30s of the 20th century. The status of the airport altered lots of times. Besides, it often changed hands. Nowadays passengers in Gatwick Airport are served by two terminals: the South Terminal and the North Terminal. They are connected by light metro line. Travel is free. Individuals with disabilities can be properly serviced in all the areas of the terminals. There are a number of restrictions for red-eye flights.
Gatwick Airport is connected with London's Victoria railway station and Brighton by the railway. Its station is located next to the South Terminal. Shuttles run to Heathrow Airport, London Stansted Airport, Victoria bus station, Waterloo railway station in London, and surrounding localities. It is cheaper to buy a ticket online than to do it at the airport. There are also taxi services in the airport.
The leading companies specializing in car rental are operating in the terminals. They are Hertz, Avis, Budget, Alamo, Dollar, Keddy, Enterprise, Europcar, Firefly, Green Motion, Inter Rent, Sixt, and Thrifty. The offices of these companies are located at the ground level of the South Terminal next to the arrival area. Budget's rental office is in the South Terminal, not far from the train station and multi-level car parking. Avis's car rental office can easily be found next to the light metro station in the South Terminal. Enterprise Rent-A-Car's office is located in the South Terminal (on Lower Forecourt Street).
The number of car rental facilities is situated at the ground level of the North Terminal. These are the offices of Avis, Sixt, Hertz, Enterprise, Alamo, Europcar, and National. They are located opposite the exit to the railway station and shuttle stop. The shuttles run between the terminals. There are also rental offices of the main companies opposite the arrival hall in the external courtyard. It is recommended to book the necessary car through available online services.
