It is also known as the Bayou city, as it was founded by brothers Augustus and John Allen in 1836 on the banks of Buffalo Bayou. The city is located in the southeast of Texas, and it was named after Sam Houston, the famous Texas Army General, to who all Texans owe their independence from Mexico.
