Sardegna is the second largest island of the Mediterranean. Cagliari is the capital of the island. Each of eight Sardinian provinces is interesting in its own way. Sardegna has long been a popular holiday destination for divers and fans of other water sports. Well-equipped clean beaches, numerous diving and surfing schools, kid entertainment centers and luxury restaurants make the rest a refined one.
The first mention of the island dates back to the 15th century BC; the long history of the island has passed under control of different states. It was occupied by the Romans, Phoenicians, Spanish and French. Naturally, such a rich history has been reflected in the variety of architectural and historical landmarks. Today, every town of Sardegna has Roman ruins and medieval churches.
