Travel tips for New Caledonia - what to prepare in advance and what to obey

1. Don’t forget about time. When using a car or traveling without a guide it is important to remember that there is no sunset in New Caledonia. The sun sets down quickly and always at the same time – at 6 pm. The day starts quickly as well – at 6 am and without any sunrise.
2. Don’t forget that New Caledonia is a country with a tropical climate, and the sun is not tender in the region. The solar radiation is the strongest in the period from 11 am to 2 pm. If you go outside during this time, always take a hat and sunglasses. To prevent sunburn, always use sunscreen. Don’t forget to drink more water.
3. Do not swim if you don’t know whether the area is safe. If you are heading to a beach that you don’t know, do not swim until you get information about it and make sure it is safe. Some beaches are not lagoons and have ocean water near the coast, so they can be very deep and have a strong current. Before you start swimming, it is always a good idea to specify safe places and time to swim.

4. Do not bargain. If you consider yourself an experienced traveler and know well how to bargain at markets in other countries, do not even mention this skill in New Caledonia. Bargaining is not adopted in this country, and it is better not to even try to bargain. Locals will consider such behavior an insult or a sign of disrespect. This is certainly not what tourists need.
5. Tipping is one more thing that tourists are better to forget about while they are in New Caledonia. Even if you feel grateful and want to show this somehow, it is better just to thank using polite words. According to local traditions, New Caledonians must gift something in return when they receive presents, and the gift must be of similar value. If you give a tip to someone, that person must give you something back. If that person was simply doing his/her job, he/she will be in an awkward situation.
6. It is possible to pay with bank cards in the capital, but cash can be the only possible payment method anywhere else. Virtually all venues in Noumea accept bank card payments. Such systems as Visa and American Express usually work flawlessly. There might be some problems with Diners Club and Mastercard. Don’t even try to pay with a bank card outside the capital region. Almost no one accepts bank cards in the countryside so don’t forget to stock up on cash.
7. Local ATMs allow the withdrawal of only US$350 a week. In order not to become penniless when traveling outside the capital region where bank cards are not accepted, plan your spending in advance. Copyright www.orangesmile.com
8. Be prepared to the fact that the prices on most goods and services are on par with European prices. Prices in New Caledonia are very high when compared to low prices in the nearby countries in Oceania. Plan your budget wisely.

Thailand Relaxes Its COVID-19 Policy

New Year events in Thailand are likely to bring more people this year because everyone is tired of lockdowns and craving normal life. Many tourists, who book hotels in Pattaya, Krabi, or Phuket for the holiday season, also want to participate. As champagne has become an essential drink for New Year celebrations, the question regarding alcohol consumption comes to mind. The government allowed serving alcoholic drinks during the New Year countdown but only open-air cafes and restaurants with good ventilation will be permitted to do this until 1 am on 1 January 2022. This rule is nationwide. Read this
