Marriott International hotel group continues to extend its portfolio in the Middle East and Africa. By 2016, the company plans to open 40 more properties in the region. Marriott International’s latest contracts include:
- Renaissance Tlemcen, a 204-room hotel in Algeria set to open in 2011. Currently, the hotel is owned by Societe d’Investissement Hotelier and, following its opening in January 2011, it will become the first and only international brand hotel in Tlemsen.
- Kigali Marriott Hotel, a 237-room hotel, slated to open in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2012. Owned by New Century Development, this is going to be the first Marriott hotel in the country.
According to Ad Fuller, Marriott International’s chairman and executive officer, the company plans to open three hotels in Qatar by the end of this year, the upscale JW Marriott hotel in Tripoli next year and JW Marriott Marquis hotel in Dubai, due to open in 2012.
Over the span of five years, Marriott International plans to open new hotels in Algier, Bahrain, Egypt, Ghana, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Its current Middle East and African portfolio comprises 28 operating hotels.
