Sightseeing in Hamilton - what to see. Complete travel guide

Hamilton is a picturesque place and the capital of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. The city is quite small if you compare it to European capitals. Nevertheless, life never stops here, and the city remains active after sunset. The fun doesn’t stop in Hamilton even at night because there are many tourists who come in search of entertainment and excitement. The city is attractive and has much to offer to its guests. Naturally, many vacationers choose Hamilton in order to enjoy swimming and sunbathing. However, if you feel bored and want to see something new, it is time to explore the most notable sights of Hamilton.
The story of this city in Bermuda started in the 90s of the 18th century. The government decided to establish a residence in this area. For this purpose, it was decided to reserve almost six hundred thousand square meters. The Bermudian government made the city its official residence three years later. All governmental establishments moved to Hamilton – they were located in Saint George until 1815. That being said, Hamilton officially became a city only when the first cathedral was opened in it.
Gorgeous beaches remain the main advantage of Hamilton. They traditionally attract tourists from all over the world. Naturally, there are no beaches within the city borders because of numerous cruise ships that arrive in Hamilton every day. That being said, the nearest suburbs of Hamilton are famous for such marvelous coastal areas as Elbow Beach and Turtle Bay. These are the most famous recreational areas that usually attract a large number of tourists. Residents of Hamilton, in their turn, also never miss a chance to swim in the cool water of the Atlantic Ocean. It doesn’t matter what beach you choose, each of them has warm sand and is very comfortable. Copyright www.orangesmile.com
Are you fond of surfing? Is exploring the underwater world an essential part of any vacation for you? Hamilton beaches are perfectly suitable for these activities. Tourists can rent the equipment they need right at the beach. Local coastal water is very clean, especially near the coral reefs, so you can dive and see all underwater creatures in detail. If you book a room in a local coastal hotel, you can try scuba diving at night, which is incredibly interesting. Unfortunately, public beaches are closed at this time.
Besides pleasant beachside recreation, Hamilton offers tourists to visit its interesting landmarks, the likes of which are hard to find in other parts of the world. For example, the beautiful and mysterious crystal cave is one of them. It is located not far from the city, close to one more wonderful attraction – the coast of Castle Harbor. Two boys discovered this cave when they were yet teenagers. This is their story.
Once, the boys decided to play croquet. Here it is important to mention that this game is very popular with local people in Hamilton. So, the boys participated in another croquet tournament for children, and one of the boys became so excited that he hit the ball too hard. The ball disappeared somewhere in the bushes. The boys went to search for the ball and found a fabulous cave. Inside the cave, they saw lakes with crystal clear blue water. Numerous stalactites and stalagmites made the cave even more attractive. This place has one interesting peculiarity – it is never cold here.
In order to visit a beautiful garden and walk in a magnificent palm tree grove, consider visiting a botanical garden called the Palm Grove Garden. The Gibbons family is the owners of this charming floral paradise. Sir David Gibbons is a former Premier of Bermuda. Every day, starting from 9 am and until 5 pm, visitors can walk in the shadowy parkways and admire the beauty of the surrounding nature.
The garden occupies an area of eighteen acres of land. There are also charming huts made of limestone. Tourists might find it particularly interesting to visit a giant cage for birds. The garden is home to birds of different species, including exotic birds with bright feathers and rare singing birds. There are even cute parrots here. A tranquil pond with blooming lilies always catches an eye of the garden’s numerous visitors. This is a manmade pond that has a small island in the middle. The island’s shape is similar to the map of Bermuda. Many locals and guests of the city choose Palm Groove as the location of their wedding ceremony.
L.F. Wade International Airport is located at a distance of sixteen kilometers from Hamilton. Different international airlines operate seasonal or year-round scheduled services to this airport. Upon arrival in Hamilton, tourists can use public transport such as buses to get to the city center or the beach. Of course, tourists can always get a taxi at the airport. Besides the typical means of transport, vacationers can choose less common ones, such as horse-driven carts. These carts are available for tourists only.
