There is a picturesque Aleutian archipelago in the United States; this is where the town of Adak is situated. This settlement was founded after the Second World War as a military base. After some time, it has lost its strategic and military importance. However, this small town close to the mainland is still home to around 300 people. Adak is the Alaska's southernmost town, which is characterized by the wet and windy climate. Most of the year, the sun is hidden behind the overcast. Fogs are very often in the town and gusty winds rarely stop there.
On average, it's raining 263 days a year, so Adak is one of the rainiest towns in the country. Despite the fact that the town has long lost its paramount military importance, it is still connected to the mainland by regular public transport links. The easiest way to get here is by plane. The airport has two runways. The main object, which attracts tourists in these places, is an abandoned naval base. Officially, it's prohibited to enter it, but that doesn't stop purposeful travelers.
In its heyday, the town had a population of more than 4 000 people, but over time, many local residents have moved to other cities. Only the most devoted native people that weren't confused neither with a harsh climate, nor with a lack of an ample infrastructure left there. Travelers who decide to visit the southernmost city in Alaska have to do it during summer. They will be able to see old churches and other historical buildings, walk along the spacious streets, and admire the marvelous scenery of the secluded island.
