One cannot help but mention the Empire State Building – one of the most important symbols of the city. The majestic 102-storey building can be seen in absolutely all the movies filmed in New York.
The city is also famous for its abandoned buildings, among them – Renwick Smallpox Hospital. The hospital was abandoned because it was shut down. Patients with smallpox were kept here. The place itself gives conflicting emotions as one can feel incredible sense of mysticism and horror, which definitely will be to the liking of those who are in love with all mysterious and unexplained events. There is another hospital meant for typhoid and tuberculosis patients, and it is located in North Brother Island. The place is also worth mentioning because the island was wrecked by PS General Slocum. An abandoned cafe on the West Side Highway, built in the 1950’s and closed in 2006, is another institution that fans of abandoned buildings will find interesting. Some romanticism emits from this place.
