Airport location, terminals and transportation
Queen Alia International Airport is the main airport of Amman and the largest one in the country. It is located 30 kilometres from the capital. The airport got its name in honour of the former Queen of Jordan, who died in a helicopter crash in 1977. The air terminal was built in 1984. It is equipped with 2 runways. The passenger traffic of the airport makes up about 8 million people per year. The passenger terminal of the airport is divided into the North and South Terminals.
In order to get to Amman, the capital city, as well as to other localities, passengers can make use of 24-hour Sariyah Airport Express Bus. Alternatively, one may take a taxi, a shared taxi, order a transfer or rent a car.
Rental offices, how to find them, where to return car
One can rent a car through the search engine of the website of the airport or another similar service. Advance booking will let you get a car at an attractive price. The representative of the selected company will be able to meet the driver in the terminal and accompany him or her to the company's office so that the driver may conclude a rental agreement. Besides, one can take advantage of the car rental facilities in Queen Alia International Airport.
The car rental facilities are placed on the first level of the passenger terminal, in the arrival area. The following companies provide their car rental services at Amman's airport: Budget, Hertz, Europcar, Payless, Avis, National, Alamo, Thrifty, and Sixt rent a car. The offices of the firms operate round the clock. Leaving the baggage claim hall, one will see the car rental facilities on the right side of the public area of the terminal.
Due to the local driving habits (drivers do not obey traffic regulations), the guests from other countries usually find it difficult to adapt to driving in such conditions. Therefore, a client may rent a car with a local driver. This service is offered by a lot of vehicle rental firms. Fuel policy depends on the selected car rental company.
Using the rental car in Jordan, one is obliged to have an additional car insurance for the vehicle. This insurance is required to cover damage of the vehicle or injury in case of a car accident. Credit cards are accepted for payment. When hiring a car, a deposit of 500-1,500 USD will be retained, in case the leased vehicle is damaged.
