Braga has a rich history and for many years this place was associated with Archbishops of Portugal. So it is no wonder that in Braga you'll see a great number of churches. It'll also be a good idea to have a look at the Archbishop of the 14th century.

But don't think that life in the city started only when Christianity was adopted. You can learn about the past from Torre de Menagem (the only undamaged part of the ancient fortifications), which is located at the City Square. There is also the Cathedral of the 12th century that was created on the place of a previous one, ruined in the 6th century. The Palácio do Biscainhos, built in the 16th century, is worth looking at too.

The eastern side of the Braga is a very popular with tourists place. To a certain extend it owes a lot Igreja de Bom Jesus de Monte of the 18th century. This staircase in baroque style symbolizes the 14 Stations of the Cross. The steps are embellished with marvelous carved statues and small fountains. There is a Chapel that will surely leave unforgettable impressions. If you want, you may get upstairs on foot, but you can also use the funicular, created in 1882.
