Alongside with the competition, there is another memorable holiday, the Columbus Day. It is dedicated to one of the most famous Genoese, Christopher Columbus. The celebration in his honor features a very rich and interesting program. The town of Imperia hosts biennial festival Vele d'Epoca dedicated to the quite rare and unusual subject, shipbuilding. It is a large-scale gathering of sailing ships accompanied with exciting educational events.
The last, but not the least place in the cultural calendar of the region is occupied by gourmet festivals dedicated to various national food and drinks. Tourists who visit Liguria during one of these holidays have an opportunity to taste fine wines and treats cooked following old recipes. One of the most interesting gastronomic events is held in the village of Riva Trigoso; it is dedicated to the popular local dish, Sagra del Bagnum.
