The period from mid-May to late October is considered the best season for rest. The lovers of both water sport and sailing will surely find here much interesting. In this town are open several diving schools where attendants can learn water ski or make a trip in a canoe. Fans of exciting excursions should visit the ruins of the medieval fortress Castro. This is a huge defensive complex built in the 14th century. Behind the walls were located a few hundred houses; here had been built more than 20 churches, but only three of them survived till our days. Among the monasteries of the city we can recommend visiting Kounistra and Evangelistra, the construction of which took place in the 17th century. Monks, who live in these monasteries, will tell you numerous fascinating stories and legends that tell of the incredible historical facts.
The city also features a great choice of shops and shopping pavilions with Varsakis Gallery to be considered the most popular one. Here you can buy all sorts of jewelry, pottery, paintings and souvenirs. The best restaurant of the Greek cuisine is Amfiliki, and traditional European dishes are served in Bonaparte and Primavera. Once the dark falls to the city, night bars and discos open here. The majority of these entertaining facilities are located on the territory of hotels or at the beach area.
